Wrinkles

I started by drawing shar pei puppies, and playing with the idea of the puppy asking, 'what are wrinkles?'. Then i experimented with images of an iron, drawing the one in my flat which has been used maximum twice, ever! images of ironing out the word 'wrinkles' from fabric. I wasn't happy with either of these ideas, so decided to see what would happen if i combined them. The result was a scared dog and an slightly aggressive iron! i looked at Dilbert by Scott Adams and Randy Glasbergen for inspiration on jokes and visual puns. I also took inspiration for the look of my piece from these traditional cartoon layouts.

It would be great to read about the inspiration behind your idea and the processes used.

I like the simplicity and format of the composition and the expression of the dog is brilliantly realised. However, it’s perhaps the (evidently well researched) detail on the iron cord that sells the whole image as believable. I noticed you wrote about traditional cartoon layouts and visual puns in your comments. If you’re not already a regular visitor, you should check out the ‘The Perry Bible Fellowship’ drawn by Nicholas Gurewitch. I you are then feel free to spam my blog with derisive ASCII art.

Ouch! But like this very much as a picture, including the format.
