Map letters presents!

For some map loving friends I make some decoupage map letters!

I make the letters from cardboard (you can also buy them on eBay, or buy from a local craft shop) using an old box and brown paper tape.

I then covered them in a map of south london using PVA. L and R live in south London!

I want these for myself now!!

FUSS Christmas Market at Hither Green

I had a great Saturday selling my range of dog drawings and doggy accessories! It was blooming freezing, but a great success, and I'm looking forward to doing it next year!

'An idea of happiness' exhibition at UCHL

The Happiness print in the previous post was made for this show, 'An Idea of Happiness' currently on display at University College Hospital in Euston, London. It is a group show and had some really lovely work, if only I had a bunch of cash to buy it all!

I particularly like this piece by Adam Bridgland...

Art 13 at Kensington Olympia - Graduate Prize launch with Jealous Gallery

I am very excited to be exhibiting with Jealous Gallery at Art13 this weekend. This is the launch of my new screen print which I made with the Jealous print studio this year. It was the private view last night, and very very busy!! I had a lovely time chatting to everyone though, and lots of people were stopping to take a picture with my print- so I though I should probably join in!

Especially for Art13, Jealous produced this catalogue featuring all of the graduate prize winners. Each prize winner had a lovely double page spread with a little blurb about our work and pictures of us working in the Jealous studio. They also produced some postcards with my print on that seemed to be quite popular!

You can now BUY MY PRINT!! click here to go to the Jealous Gallery website.

'Hot Off the Press' at Curwen Gallery

I was very excited to be invited to exhibit as part of the Hot Off The Press exhibition for 2012 printmaking graduates at the Curwen Gallery.

I was also awared the Curwen Gallery 2012 Graduate Prize, which means an internship at the Curwen Print Studios in Cambridgeshire. I feel very honoured to have been given this opportunity to work with such a historic and high profile studio, it is also in a beautiful part of the world!

New Caligo Safe Wash Inks

I am setting up my little studio (only in my flat!) and am in the process of building up a small collection of rollers, papers and inks. Throughout my MA I used oils based inks, which need to be cleaned with solvents. I am keen to use non toxic techniques if possible- better for the environment, and probably better for me! I already have a black, but here are some new primarys. I made this small swatch to remind myself of the exact colours, hopefully that will be handy when printing.

Margate = Margreat!

This weekend I went to Margate, we got cheap train tickets as part of the Mary Portas pilot scheme. As you may know I LOVE seaside towns, and much of my previous work is based on my visits to British Seaside towns.

We also visited the Turner Contemporary Gallery, which was buzzing with visitors and has some exciting installation art.

Margate is a beautiful town, but very run down. I really hope that the Portas scheme and other investments can regenerate it, as the views and the light over the sea is quite stunning.

Proofing 'YOU IS WELL FIT' for Jealous Gallery

This is the final stage of the print design, all the artwork has been created and the proofing process allows me to decide on exact colours before printing a stack of 25 copies. I chose bright primary yellow and red (you might have seen this combination before, it has become a favourite!) and a glossy black for the final layer. After proofing the print will be ready to edition, and my time at jealous is up, what a shame! Jealous is a fantastic print studio, with a load of brilliant staff- I will miss working there.

More pics of the Jealous print in progress...

Just a few snaps from the studio. I cut the first two layers from Rubylith, which is a double layer film that you can score with a sharp scalpel and peel away areas. The other pictures are of the exposed silk screens ready to print from... Exciting!

Print collaboration with Jealous Gallery

I am working on a screen print at the moment with Jealous Gallery at their studio in Shoreditch. I am using original lino prints to make up the layers to creat a screen print- sound a bit mad but all will become clear... Here are some pics of the process so far...
