D-Luxe Cleaning

I fancied doing some relief printing again, and Lino is great to cut into, especially when warmed up by a hot plate on a low setting! - Looking forward to cutting some more!

the beginnings of some plate lithography...

A proof print of the background layer...

...and the next layer to be printed. I am hoping to make this into a two or three colour piece, and capture some of the atmosphere in the dark skies of the big smoke!

Some etching...

I had a little extra time in the print workshop today so i tried out a bit of hard ground etching (no printing yet, just making the plate). Just a bit of doodling to see how long i would have to leave a similar piece in the acid. Interesting stuff, hopefully i will be able to use this technique in creating my next masterpiece!

Congratulations Anna and Dan!

I was honoured to be asked by my good friend Charlie to make a present for his cousin's wedding. I absolutely loved looking up vintage buses and I'm looking forward to doing another commission for such a special occasion!

Jme- Jamie Oliver's magnificent branding!

Has anyone else seen Jamie Oliver's Jme stores? Wandering round Clapham Junction on the weekend I came across this fabulous shop, kitchen and classroom! As my good friend Lucy and I were browsing the beautifully packaged jams, mustards and sauces we noticed a group of 8 people stuffing chickens and preparing vegetables at the back of the store! On sale was Jamie everything, including books and ready meals, and even kitchen utensils. I really love the labels on the jams and other jars, I wonder who did these? Possibly Jamie has sold out a bit, but I couldn't help but be tempted by the delicious looking olives and trendy kilner jar goodies!

Tap water labels for dothegreenthing.com!

Green Thing are a not for profit organisation that inspires people to live a greener life. They asked me to design a set of labels for anyone to stick onto their reused water bottle and advertise the contents as tap water, as part of world tap water week. You can download your own copy HERE, or you can upload your own designs to their Flikr group, I Love Tap.

A little bit of work and some time in Wales!

I made this picture for my good friends Mark, Sarah and Martha Hamilton, and thank goodness they really liked it! There is a label for each item in the picture translating it into French, le chat, la voiture, les nuages!

I also spent some time with Mr Palser around the Llanwit Major area of the vale of Glamorgan, above is Southerndown beach, one of my all time favourites, and below is us trying to get to grips with the camera on my new phone!

Lithography at Stroud Print Co-op

This week I am taking part in a stone lithography course at Stroud Print co-op. The course is taught by Paul Cross, a master printmaker and has so far been fascinating! I am attending with my mum, artist Beth Jenkins, so far we have drawn onto the stones, and we will be printing them throughout the week, I hope to get some bright colours into the background of my Mecca Bingo image-maybe with some inks or gouache.

Cardboard Bermondsey Street

It has been too long since my last post, but happily it is because I have been really busy!! This latest work was done for a branding agency in London.

Chicken Run

This just conjures up an images of some very unhappy chickens! Found near petticoat market in Shoreditch, London. I was visiting Shoreditch as my work was on display at D&AD, a strange sort of trade fair for illustrators, designers and advertisers.

It was a really great week of meeting people, showing off and browsing some fabulous vintage clothes shops on Brick lane!

Screen Printing Round Two!

After quite a few failed experiments I have now changed my screen block and drawing fluid and it has exposed the screen so much better!! I look forward to posting the results soon, I will be printing as soon as the screens dries off.

New Screen Printing kit!- Failed attempt No1.

I recently purchased a home screen printing kit, I have been waiting to use it for a while and even built a hinged bed so I can hold the screen in place and print on my own. I don't have the facilities for exposing photo emulsion as yet, so I created my first print using screen drawing fluid and screen block. This was trickier to use than i anticipated and ended up putting the screen block on waaaaay to thick! As a result my image did not some out very well, and a lot of the detail was missing, bum.  Now I am just looking forward to creating my next print....wahoo!

Its been too long!

I haven't blogged for a while,  after the madness of setting up my degree show I have enjoyed some down time, maybe a little too much! The ECA degree show opens on Saturday the 12th June, and is going to be excellent!

Some Posters...

I have been working on these as part of my degree show exhibition. The posters are hand drawn and coloured with Gouache watercolours. The mad mess around the frames is due to the studio being closed and a slight increase in stress as final assessments approach!

3D Drawings

I have been thinking about turning some of my architectural drawings into simple 3D creations, here is a little mock up I did this afternoon, the real ones would be in colour, possibly with coloured paper in the windows? not sure really, comments appreciated!
